Here are the films that we showed late Saturday afternoon and on Saturday night, from Canada, France, Minnesota, and Iran. (Please note: Due to distribution limitations, two films that we showed at the live Festival are not available here, Simo and 40 Below.)

A mother, a Peruvian immigrant to Canada, returns to Peru to attend her daughter's wedding. This film takes us inside the pain of immigration and family separation caused by economic necessity.

Mamita

What would happen if the world were about to run out of melodies? As a musician (Stanislas Roquette) and his fiancée (Marilyne Fontaine, back after her knock-out performance in Radio Moon, shown at BWFF 2018) consider this question, they tantalizingly consider the possibilities and share regretful what-ifs. For a film with "Apocalypse" in its title, Pierre Gaffié brings us an ultimately hopeful film.

George Morrison, an American painter born in 1919 in Chippewa City, an Ojibwe settlement outside of Grand Marais, Minnesota, achieved great recognition during his life as an Abstract Expressionist painter and later as a sculptor, and finally as a studio art and Native American studies professor. (His work was even featured on a series of U.S. postage stamps.) His work continues to be collected by prestigious institutions today, the National Gallery of Art having just announced this year its acquisition of a 1961 work. Toward the end of his life Lorraine Norrgard, a long-time chronicler of Ojibwe life and culture, sought out George Morrison at his Grand Portage, Minnesota home, for an interview. The resulting film, now several years old, remains a beautiful piece, interspersing Mr. Morrison's commentary along with photos of his art.

Farhad has only one hour of good light to shoot the last scene in his film, a film in which he has invested his whole life, but everything goes wrong, from temperamental actors, to an angry landlord, to exploding marital difficulties. Will he get it done?

Apollo

When a rare neurological disease causes paralysis, vertigo, hearing loss, and vision loss for professional paddle-boarder Mike Shoreman, he is robbed of his sense of self-worth. Severe depression and a mental health breakdown lead to a suicide attempt. Mike finds his way back though setting an extraordinary goal for himself: to become the first disabled paddleboarder to cross all five Great Lakes. This film chronicles not just Mike's physical feat, but the social bonds formed by his team that made his attempt possible.
