Here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, we understand the hard work it takes to build a community. From Southie to the North Sea, here are four short films that explore the ways that gentrification and inevitable social change affect the places we live, and the places that make our neighborhoods home.
This gripping film explores the 12 historic hours in July, 1970 when 50 members of the Young Lords stormed the dilapidated Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx, drove out the administrative staff, and made their cries for decent healthcare known to the world. They raised the Puerto Rican flag and a banner reading “The People’s Hospital” – a nom de guerre still used today.
