There will be a recorded discussion about the film with Barbara Merson, MJFF Interim Executive Director and Professor Robert Weisbrot, who teaches American history at Colby College. Professor Weisbrot is the author of Freedom Bound: A History of America’s Civil Rights Movement (1990). The discussion link sent to all ticket holders.

"One of the strengths of the film is being able to see and hear what we might have only read about - such as Rabbi Prinz who spoke just before Martin Luther King at the March on Washington," Professor Weisbrot

Shared Legacies explores the historical ties between Black and Jewish Americans featuring archival footage, eyewitness accounts, and interviews with civil rights leaders, including the late U.S. Representative John Lewis, and a treasure trove of archival footage. The film is a tribute to the pursuit of what Dr. King called a "coalition of conscience" and a celebration of partnership, as well as an urgent call to action for today. Co-sponsored by the JCA of Southern Maine.
