Born in Havana, Cuba, and schooled as a Roman Catholic from grade school through university, Genie Milgrom was always burdened with a deep-rooted feeling of not belonging. Genie’s decades-long quest for her Jewish lineage takes her to Europe and Israel, despite the misgivings of her Catholic family. She finally discovers that her family was Jewish centuries before in the Iberian Peninsula and became conversos to protect themselves during very dark times in Europe. Together with her husband Michael, an Ashkenaz of Romanian origins, she finally learns the truth about her family and converts to Orthodox Judaism.
