In Franz Kafka's last year of life, he falls in love with Dora Diamant, who accepts him as he is: suffering from tuberculosis, dependent on his overbearing family, and dedicated to his writing. Franz and Dora meet in 1923 on the Baltic Sea coast, where he is convalescing and she is working in a Jewish Volksheim. In their limited time together, they travel to Berlin and to Austria so he can try to recover. The memory of their time together will shape Dora for the rest of her life.
