Tamara was a Jewish and LGBTQ woman hiding her identity in the early 20th century, navigating the male-dominated world of art. Her story embodies resilience, survival, and the pursuit of personal freedom. Escaping fascism and emigrating to the US, she constantly reinvented herself to survive. Never-before-seen 8mm home movies, newly-discovered documents proving her heritage and identity, and commentary from family members and art museum directors bring Tamara’s work and personality to light. Tamara’s artwork and legacy were recently revived in a musical at the La Jolla Playhouse, and her artwork is still collected by people such as Barbra Streisand.
