The Last Days of April is an intimate and deeply moving portrait of disability, community, and self-determination, centered on Halifax advocate and adaptive athlete April Hubbard as she navigates the end of her life through the use of MAiD. With a tethered spinal cord and chronic pain, Hubbard documents her MAiD journey and witnesses the intersection of bodily autonomy with systemic barriers, ultimately advocating for a more inclusive and compassionate world. Approaching mortality without reducing life to illness or tragedy, The Last Days of April sustains a focus on dignity, bodily autonomy, friendship, and the community Hubbard cultivated to offer a compassionate and locally resonant reflection on what it means to live - and leave - on one’s own terms.
