On March 11, 2023, 12 years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake. The affected areas are slowly showing signs of recovery. I wonder if the hearts of those affected by the disaster are showing signs of recovery, just as the city is recovering.
This is a film record of listening to the voices of the victims I met in Fukushima Prefecture, such as a woman who was a high school student at the time lost her family in the tsunami, and a man who was unable to return home due to radioactive contamination.
Comment from Minoru Kane, the director of the movie "The day I heard your voice"
In 2018, we filmed a movie in Tome City in Miyagi Prefecture. It was a story about a man who lost his girlfriend's family in the Great East Japan Earthquake, met a woman on a journey, and found a chance to recover from his loneliness. (movie: Not Alone)
After that, we screened it in various places and met a former elementary school teacher in Fukushima Prefecture.
In 2021, 10 years after the earthquake, I felt a connection and went to Fukushima Prefecture. When I asked about the situation at the time of the earthquake, the situation was unique to Fukushima Prefecture, which was different from that of the victims of Miyagi Prefecture. The situation of the disaster depends on the location, age, and position. I have put together a record of the thoughts of the people who met and talked with me about how they spent 10 years from that time.
I hope that you will listen to the voices of the victims of Fukushima Prefecture and put your heart into it. It was filmed exactly the year of the Recovery Olympics.
