A sinister mood lingers throughout the Argentinian drama, Carajita, as it tells the story of a Black Dominican nanny, Yarisa, who is caught in an emotionally challenging position. Embraced as “part of the family” by her young charge, Sarah, and her privileged family, Yarisa finds her allegiance being tested by her own spirited daughter, Mallory. But soon circumstances arise that reveal the underlying truth about the relationships between all involved. Featuring striking cinematography and outstanding performances, Carajita is a haunting film that deftly explores the tenuous relationship that exists between race, class, and family.
