A heatwave has started in downtown Madrid. The sudden death of pensioner Manuel’s beloved wife becomes the catalyst for his progressive deterioration, prompting his son to take him into his home to care for him despite the protests of his new wife. As Manuel’s condition worsens and the heatwave shows no sign of abating, his teenage granddaughter becomes the only one who really trusts him. Yet it’s not only Manuel who begins acting strangely…

That’s probably all we should say about The Elderly. One of the delights of choosing the selection for Abertoir is that frequently we see films knowing very little about them in advance. So when a title comes along that offers a unique and original story such as this, it’s a breath of fresh air that we can’t wait to share with you. One thing’s for sure, it’s very unlikely you’ll figure out where this film is about to take you, and we hope you enjoy the final destination!
