Twenty-three years of striving for the obvious. The cremation of the dead in Greece has been taboo for a decade for most of the political spectrum. Due to the influence of the church and some political ideologies, the law that was passed was drafted in such a way that no one would dare to open and operate a crematorium, as they would come into direct conflict with the religious establishment.

“The Promise" is a record of the political dimension of this effort, which was borne on the shoulders of a man for 23 years. It could also be seen as a record of the marathon that every legislative change in Greece must run, whether it concerns human rights issues, such as cremation, or other issues that are different from the established perceptions, stereotypes, anachronisms, and traditions, which in reality are nothing more than financial interests. The motivation for such laws is always money.
