The documentary presents the unique way in which the inhabitants of the Farmakas village celebrate Easter through the religious folk song “The Birdie.” For the first time, an attempt is made to present a custom that has been practised in the village for three consecutive days (Easter Sunday, Easter Monday and Bright Tuesday) for centuries, just like their ancestors did. Mrs. Anna Neofytou, Philologist-Researcher of the Centre for Scientific Research, highlights the uniqueness of the custom and richness of the folk tradition of Cyprus. Mr. Pavlos Mihaelides, a musician-violinist, brings to light the various elements that make up the traditional music of Cyprus and how these could explain the way the song was composed.
