Wind is a very strategic resource for Europe, which aims to achieve energy independence. This “green energy” represents the most promising domestic resource. The harnessing of this source of energy is a national strategy for central government authorities. It also attracts huge interest from big industries, which aim to tap into this resource without any regard of the implications of their actions for local communities or suggestions of anthropologists.

The film is part of the five-year research project infra-demos.net, which studies infrastructure and democracy. With visual ethnographic realism and contrasts of everyday life, Colony uses the interplay of soundscapes and ‘windscapes’. From seeing and hearing an olive tree, which symbolises "resistance to solitude," to the workers in the wind turbine industry, who have them next to their homes, the film uses an audio-visual approach to analyse the world of modern "colonialism" of wind turbines in Greece, on the island of Evia.

During the production of this documentary, our studio was broken into twice, and our equipment and memory cards were stolen and destroyed. We had to work hard to recover the material and re-edit this film.
