CAMP OF EXPECTATION
PERIFEREIAKO GYMNASIO XYLOTYMVOU - 1st prize at the A.E.I. 2019 Film Festival - A documentary that impressed the depth and breadth of the research that was done, despite the young age of the students who attend high school, hence the award of the First Prize. An unknown aspect of the recent history of Cyprus is presented, concerning the detention of thousands of Jews who traveled to Palestine after World War II, in a camp in Xylotymvou during the period 1946-1949.
NICOSIA WALLS
LYKEIO ARCHIEPISKOPOU MAKARIOU III - DASOUPOLI - 2nd praise at the A.E.I. 2019 Film Festival
SALINES, THE SALT LAKES OF LARNACA: A FORGOTTEN LUCRATIVE NATURAL RESOURCE
GYMNASIO "VERGINA" LARNAKAS - 3rd prize at the A.E.I. 2019 Film Festival - A detailed and careful review of the history of the Larnaca salt flats and their importance today as habitats. It is enriched with interviews by the historical researcher Nasa Patapiou, the senior health inspector of the Municipality of Larnaca, Kostas Kokkinos, and a driver in the transport of salt, Stelios Michael.

These films were produced by High school students who participetated at the film workshop the AEI AUDIOVISUAL FORUM organised together with the Cyprus UNESCO School Network in 2019 and have awarded with cash prizes sponsored by the Cyprus Radio-Television Authority

During 1946-1949, thousands of Jewish people, who survived the Holocaust, trying to get to Palestine, were enclosed by the British governors of Cyprus, in a complex of detention camps in the area of Xylotymbou, the so called “winter camp”. A pilgrimage through space and time with interviews from historians, locals, as well as people who lived in the camp. The historical conditions, the reactions of the Press, the structure and the internal function of the camps, the everyday life of the enclosed Jewish, but also their attempts to escape, all these give an outline of a relatively unknown part of the modern History of Cyprus.
