In October of 2017 the "Kavafia 2017" was run in Alexandria, Egypt, a series of events established and enhanced by Kostis Moskof, ex education attaché of the Greek embassy in Cairo.

The international symposium on "Kavafis in the 21st century" took place in the impressive building of the library of Alexandria, on the seaside promenade, the charming Cornis. Scientists, authors and journalists, scholars of Kavafis, brought to light the contemporary relevance of Kavafis' work. Through a number of artistic events running in parallel showcased the unique worldview of the great Alexandrian. After walking through Alexandria, a lively, ever-changing city we got to Kavafis' house. There, in the flat with the balcony, we were welcomed by the warden and given a tour by the people from the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in Alexandria.

The president of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture, Mr Tsoukalas believes that the great Alexandrian poet "taking into consideration that history is not taught, turns to history to inspire us, using irony as a major weapon, something no other poet has done. Irony that doesn't speak of good or evil, but of distance, of pleasure, generally of life.
