Apellis Psychas, a refugee in Mytilene during the first persecution in 1914, settles with his family in the area of the castle after a short wandering on the island. He benefits from the presence of people often swimming on the shoreline of Fikiotripa and decides to build his house and his coffee shop there. During the Interwar period, this place became a pole of attraction for many residents of the city and mainly intellectuals. But during the German occupation and the Civil War, the coffee shop ceased to exist. The end of this leisure venue is associated with various testimonies and interpretations. However, during the post-war period, Apelli’s coffee shop was the reason for the establishment of many similar ones in the wider region, which were demolished during the Regime of the Colonels period. This probably marks the end of an era and the beginning of another.
