One of the most important Byzantine monuments in Cyprus is the church of Panagia Aggeloktisti, located in the community of Kiti. It is a building of the 11th – 12th c. built on the ruins of a three-aisled wooden-roofed early Christian basilica of the 5th c. This is a church famous both for its name and for the unique in its kind, early Christian mosaic of the 6th c. which adorns the arch of the sanctuary. The church also preserves important frescoes, dating to the middle of the 13th century. as well as portable images of different eras and styles.
