Isabelle Brodeur (Anne Dorval) embarks on a journey to Vietnam, her adopted daughter’s birthplace. Her path leads her to the woman who was once her daughter’s nanny. In doing so, Isabelle learns the existence and whereabouts of her daughter’s biological mother, Thuy Nguyen (Leanna Chea). Throughout this stunningly beautiful journey, Isabelle discovers her daughter’s country through the eyes of the woman who brought her into this world. Director Jean-Philippe Duval

Jean-Philippe Duval has been director of the CBC/Radio-Canada TV series UNITÉ 9 since 2012. The show, written by Danielle Trottier and produced by Aetios, marked his return to directing for television. UNITÉ 9 won the Gémeaux Award for best TV show in 2015 and was nominated for the same award in 2015. He wrote the script and directed his second feature film DÉDÉ, À TRAVERS LES BRUMES, the story of the life and work of André ‘Dédé’ Fortin, lead singer of the band Les Colocs. Jean-Philippe directed the TV series NI PLUS NI MOI written by Sylvie Bouchard and broadcast by Série+. Between 2004 and 2007, he directed four seasons of ÉTATS HUMAINS, the standout TV series that won him two Gémeaux nominations for Best Director. During that same time, he not only created the concept but, also, co-directed and co-produced another TV series, MARTIN SUR LA ROUTE, featuring the larger-than-life chef of Le Pied de Cochon, Martin Picard. (The series received several Gémeaux nominations.) In 1999, he had made his directorial debut film MATRONI ET MOI (an adaptation of the stage play of the same name) which was admired for its original, cartoon-like presentation. It went on to win eleven Jutra nominations. Jean-Philippe has several documentaries to his name including, LA VIE A DU CHARME; LUMIÉRE DES OISEAUX (nominated for Best Documentary at the Jutra Awards and for Best Director of Photography at the Gémeaux); LES RÉFUGIÉS DE LA PLANÉTE BLEUE (winner of several international awards); L'ODYSSÉE BAROQUE; ÉCOLE DE DANSE; and MARCHÉ JEAN-TALON (Gémeaux winner for Best Documentary Series).
