HBO APA Visionaries 2020

With the theme of “Breaking Barriers,” the 4th HBO Asian Pacific American Visionaries short film competition drew a record number of submissions of films that provided a unique lens into the challenges and victories of overcoming obstacles. In the spirit of celebrating community and amplifying voices, the 3 finalist films, Tiffany So’s FINE CHINA, Johnson Cheng’s LONELY BLUE NIGHT, and Thomas Percy Kim’s SI, premiered at the 2020 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, presented by Visual Communications. We are pleased to screen them again during the Asian Pacific Virtual Showcase. Learn more about HBO Visionaries at hbovisionaries.com

FINE CHINA is a musical set in a quiet, Chinese household. When tragedy strikes, Lily suddenly finds her family’s silence to be unbearable. In an effort to break free, she erupts in a song and dance that threatens everything her parents believe to be true.
