Youth in Motion presented by Vietnamese American Arts and Letters Association

If we dare to dream, we must also brave ourselves for nightmare. Through documentary and narrative filmmaking, 4 filmmakers point the camera at various protagonists, including themselves, in the midst of conjuring such dreams. The films grapple with ideas such as queerness, poverty, beauty, and individuality. Vietnamese American Arts and Letters Association (VAALA) is committed to making film education accessible to young adults in Orange County through the program Youth in Motion. These 4 highlighted films represent 4 iterations of the program as the filmmakers explore various personal and community-related experiences.

VAALA's mission is to connect and enrich communities through Vietnamese art and culture. Stay tuned for the 2021 Viet Film Fest (Oct 15-30), which celebrates Vietnamese stories and voices in cinema. Learn more at vaala.org

Despite great success from her crowning at the 2014 pageant, Anne Phung faces many beauty and cultural stereotypes within the Southern California Vietnamese community through her reign. The film follows her journey up to her crowning as the next Miss Vietnam of Southern California 2015.
