Earlier this year, the Honolulu Museum of Art and The Pōpolo Project brought together Dr. Akiemi Glenn (Executive Director of The Pōpolo Project) and Dr. Ethan Caldwell (Assistant Professor of Ethnic Studies at University of Hawaiʻi) for the conversation "Black Visuality and Solidarity in Oceania," where scholars and artists came together to discuss how Oceania opens up new possibilities for visualizing and understanding Black identity beyond the continental U.S. and Atlantic discourse.

We continued this conversation with Dr. Glenn, Dr. Caldwell, and special guest Johnathan Gibbs aka blasianFMA (Creator of Black Asian Alliance Network) to explore the identity of mixed race Black and Asian folks, as well as the complications of Black and Asian solidarity on the mainland and beyond. They also discuss their expansive work, heritage months, and more.

Special thanks to the Honolulu Museum of Art for their support in hosting this follow-up conversation.
