SYNOPSIS

Ramses the Great is one of ancient Egypt’s most famous pharaohs, a ruler celebrated as the most powerful king ever to command the country. A skillful strategist that saw in the edification of the powerful city of Pi-Ramses a way to gain power. A great pacifist who, through his new gigantic capital, devoted his reign to reinforcing the diplomatic and commercial influence of Egypt. The rise of his legendary city that spread its influence throughout the Mediterranean mirrors in many ways the tremendous power of the pharaoh himself.

But how much do we really know about the king?

Today, a team of enthusiastic archaeologists led by Prof. Henning Franzmeier have uncovered a remarkable palace and treasure room inside the city.

With exclusive access to the site, this documentary follows this unprecedented mission during 8 weeks of filming and for the first time unlocks the true story of the lost city of Ramses the Great.

The film shows the scientists on the field as they excavate Ramses II’s palace as well as other archaeologists and historians exploring nearby sites that help provide context to the story.
