“Wild East” tells the story of Gabi Paun, an environmentalist risking his life to expose how IKEA, Romania’s largest private land owner, is working with local timber mafias to destroy the last of Romania’s old growth forests. This short documentary follows Paun and his team, Agent Green, as they investigate. Forced to flee his home in Romania after multiple assassination attempts, Paun operates from a safe house abroad, continually risking his life to expose the truth. Paun and Agent Green’s work culminates in the release of an explosive, undeniable report that catches the attention of the global corporate giant. By the film’s end, audiences will be challenged to reflect on both the toll this work takes on the activists who choose to pursue it and on how a global corporation can implicate us all in the environmental destruction of a place that is out of sight and out of mind.
