Director, Sam Pollard

Sam Pollard is an Emmy Award-winning and Oscar-nominated director and producer. His films for HBO, PBS, and the Discovery Channel include the documentaries Four Little Girls, When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts, Slavery by Another Name, Sammy Davis, Jr.: I Gotta Be Me, ACORN and the Firestorm, Why We Hate, and Atlanta's Missing and Murdered: The Lost Children. Pollard also directed two episodes of the groundbreaking series Eyes on the Prize.


Since 1994 Pollard has served on the faculty of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and lives in New York City.






Moderator, Marcus LeGrand

Marcus has taught and counseled in a variety of environments including high schools, colleges, military, and corporate America. Marcus has also shared his love of film by serving on the BendFilm Festival film selections committee. As an educator, his wide range of experience and knowledge, and advocacy for students has helped students over barriers and gave them access to better education.


He currently serves as the College and Career Success Coach at Central Oregon Community College. In addition, he's an instructor for Social Science and Business, and an Executive Board Member for The Father’s Group, which is a non-profit organization, structured to help students build an equitable and inclusive community.


Marcus has a B.A. in Marketing from the University of Washington-Seattle. He received his M.A. from Rowan University with a degree in Counseling. Marcus is currently running to join the Bend-LaPine School Board in the May election. When he’s not helping students, he enjoys spending time with family, officiating various sports, reading, watching films, and traveling.
