Inspired by people like Muhammed Ali, Joan Baez, Daniel Ellsberg and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., 500,000 American men resisted their own draft at the risk of prison and brought the entire Federal Court system to a halt. They marched with millions of others and not only helped to end the savage Vietnam War (which killed 50,000 American soldiers), but also helped end the draft itself. These young men were willing to serve long prison sentences on the basis of their belief that the war was immoral and human life is sacred.
