How does a good Muslim son, Ahsen, tell his devout, far-away parents that he will marry a non-believing white woman named “Dawn?” Well, in search of guidance, he travels to a Japanese monastery to make a documentary, and to get spiritual counseling, but the only helpful monk, Ryushin, prefers heavy-metal and sundaes over meditation. Ahsen is soon kicked out because his cell phone rings during a ritual, so he and Ryushin rush out of the monastery and into a spiritual journey of their own.
