Dede (whose name also means “Grandfather” in Turkish) is a shepherd in the undeveloped Aladağ district of Adana. Because of the high number of child deaths in the village, the families went to shrine and sought different names for their children. Dede, who takes the name of Koyun Dede Shrine, lives the name given to him as fate and continues his daily life enduring the difficulties of shepherd. His family and villagers can not compromise with him about marriage, immigration to city and work. Dede’s dream is to get married, move to the city, and find new work over the objections of his family and community.
