A mainstay of Brattle programming in the late 90s – it screened on 4 of the 6 calendars in the 12 months after its release – this landmark of queer cinema is just as steamy and thrilling now as it was 25 years ago. Typical film noir tropes are turned on their collective ear when a gorgeous plumber (Gershon) falls hard for a gangster’s moll (Tilly) and the two hatch a plan to fleece the mob. A remarkably confident feature film debut from The Wachowskis who took inspiration from Billy Wilder to combine dark comedy with a crime story and wisely hired the legendary Susie Bright to coach the sex scenes.

“Bound is one of those movies that works you up, wrings you out and leaves you gasping. It's pure cinema, spread over several genres.” – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
