Director Statement
Through the concept of “Fusion,” I explore the philosophical relationship between the “big” and the “small,” creating works that are simultaneously monumental and intricate. My artistic approach integrates traditional Asian art forms with modern computational science, seeking to innovate within digital and interdisciplinary art. My work challenges perceptions of reality, exploring how technology reshapes our interaction with the world. By combining large-scale projection mapping, immersive spaces, and culturally rooted techniques, I aim to create multi-sensory experiences that connect deeply with audiences. I believe the future of art lies at the intersection of tradition and modernity, where technology enhances emotion and culture. By balancing these elements, I strive to produce works that inspire reflection and foster a renewed appreciation for both heritage and innovation. — LEOW

I was raised by my grandparents. My grandfather, a war veteran, often sat by the window, recounting stories from the trenches. When he spoke of fallen comrades and the solitude beneath the shellfire, his eyes always carried a complex expression. These childhood tales left me with a fascination for "war"—a mix of fear and a desire to understand its underlying meaning. I grew up learning Western classical music, but after returning to Asia in 2014, I developed a deep interest in Chinese instruments. The first time I heard a guzheng performance, its taut strings, sounding as if they might snap at any moment, resonated in the air and reminded me of the battlefield my grandfather described. In 2021, I began exploring these emotions through digital art. I attempted to create a sphere composed of ions that could morph with music. Emerging from endless darkness, it would sometimes expand, like a string stretched to its limit, exuding a tense power; at other times, it would contract into tiny, flickering points of light, brimming with explosive energy. This "ion sphere" felt like an alien observer, traveling through cosmic time and space, witnessing humanity's cycles of conflict and reconciliation. Ancient war songs and modern cries echo the recurring loops of history. Time doesn’t seem to move linearly, does it? This force repeats itself endlessly, as though humanity's history is trapped in a fateful cycle. I turn on the news, and the world is still at war.
