Director Biography - Jean-Baptiste Germain
After studying cinema, he began filming as a manager then became an assistant director. From 2007 he directed several documentaries on cinema, In the land of Orpheus, must we turn around? (2007), The Iron Man, Memoirs of Ideals (2008), French Cinema is doing well (2012). Dahomey (2009) and Le Chant du coquelicot (2011) mark his first steps in fiction. All of his films have been selected in numerous festivals, Cannes, Montreal, Buenos Aires... He created the production company Bootstrap Label in 2014 and in 2015 began his hybrid trilogy, Lac noir (2015), Le Régicide (2017) and Ciao Socialisme (2019). In 2016, he launched edition #1 of WIPP. At the same time, he produces films by Aude Pépin, Philippe Lasry, Fleur Albert, Marie-Pierre Brêtas, Frédérique Ramade and Martin Tronquart. Jean-Baptiste regularly collaborates on the writing and directing of documentaries, transmedia projects and short fiction series for France Télévisions, Canal+, CStar, Tout l'Histoire such as The Jews of the Arab World, Le Grand Départ (2018). He was an associate professor of performing arts at the University of Poitiers from 2012 to 2015, and president of ACID from 2014 to 2016. Since 2015, he has served as an expert member on several commissions supporting writing and the production of short and feature films in the Basse-Normandie, Île-de-France and PACA regions.
