In Argentina in 1939, while the World Chess Championship was taking place, breaking news shocked the participants: Germany had invaded Poland and World War II had erupted. Many great masters were stranded away from their home countries and began to organize exhibitions in order to make their living. One of them searched for something else.



Director Biography - Alfonso Gastiaburo

Director, screenwriter and film editor. Founder of La Conjura TV. He has participated in numerous alternative media and counter-information projects, making documentaries about human rights and social movements. Some of his works have been used as proof in human rights trials against the Argentinian State. He is the director of “Roundabout” (miniseries, 2014), “Glances” (documentary, Al Jazeera English, 2012), “The Lines of the Hand” (documentary miniseries, Espacio Santafesino, 2015-2018) and “40 Boards” (short fiction, INCAA, 2019). He is developing the following projects: “Delil’s Journey”, a documentary which won the 9th edition of the Raymundo Gleyzer Award, granted by INCAA in 2016; “The Adventures of Valentina Holmes and Bernardo Watson” a transmedia series for children, winner of the Contest for International Development and Promotion of Children’s Projects, granted by INCAA in 2016; “Maize Daughters” documentary project, winner of the Incubadora Contest for Documentary Project Development, granted by INCAA in 2017.
