Poetry is the most popular art form in Myanmar. Most people can recite poetry by heart, many write poems of their own, and poetry has helped Burmese people survive the military dictatorship. In Burma Storybook we meet well known poet and activist Maung Aung Pwint, who spent large parts of his adult life as a political prisoner. Affected by Parkinson’s disease in his old age, he looks forward to being reunited with his son who emigrated to Finland 20 years ago. “Life makes me forget what I’d like to remember, and makes me remember what I’d rather forget.”
