INTRODUCING CIFF LOVE LETTERS: Valentines day has come early! We’ve thought a lot this year about how we can build connections between audience members and filmmakers within a virtual space. One of the hardest things about this year for filmmakers, is that they have not been able to forge spontaneous connections with audiences and hear from them directly. If you’ve seen a film you have loved, click HERE to write a love letter to a filmmaker!

50% of all virtual ticket revenue from this film will support the Penobscot Bay YMCA's Early Learning Centers

Through the Night will screen virtually from October 2-12, 2020. This film will be only available to viewers in the United States.

It’s morning and sunbeams stream through a peaceful wonderland of balloons, toys, and dress up clothes. Deloris “Nunu” Hogan gently beckons sleeping children snuggled into panda bears and fuzzy blankets to softly wake; their mothers have arrived for pickup, fresh off the night shift. Nunu’s daycare is a haven of love and a space of refuge not only for the children but also for the working-poor and single mothers who feel they have nowhere else to turn. Many parents who bring their children to Nunu and Patrick “Pop Pop” Hogan work three or more jobs, stringing together a series of dead-end, part-time, minimum wage positions with no healthcare or benefits in order to make ends meet for their families. When employers refuse to give additional hours and block pathways to full time positions, these women make a way out of no way, working nonstop for their families at terrible personal expense. A tender portrait of titanic strength, love, and selflessness, THROUGH THE NIGHT showcases the multiplicity of women’s work -- paid, underpaid, and unpaid; emotional and physical; domestic and career-oriented -- all while negotiating the terms of a dignified existence under the three arrows of racism, sexism, and capitalism in America. (JA)
