One of the hardest things about this year for filmmakers, is that they have not been able to forge spontaneous connections with audiences and hear from them directly. Reda is 26 years old. His dreams of escaping the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain El-Helweh ended in failure after three years trapped in Greece. He returned with a heroin addiction to life in a camp being torn apart by internal strife and the encroachment of war from Syria. Against all odds he decides to marry his childhood sweetheart; a love story, bittersweet as the camp itself.
This film will screen as part of a special retrospective from award-winning Danish-Palestinian filmmaker and visual artist, Mahdi Fleifel. Through his work, Mahdi's has been documented the Palestinian refugee camp, Ainal-Helweh since 2012. His films have screened worldwide to great acclaim, winning awards at Berlin, Yamagata, CPH:Dox and DocNYC, among others. Mahdi will join us for a special masterclass during the 2020 Points North Forum.
Films include: A World Not Ours (feature 2012), Xenos (short 2013), A Man Returned (short 2016) and 3 Logical Exits (short 2020)
