Mainers pride themselves on their independence, and the rugged landscapes where they forge their lives and identities. This year’s Dirigo Docs program honors the sovereignty of the Wabanaki people and their longstanding stewardship of the place we now call Maine, while exploring the freedom and healing made possible through deeper relationships with this land and its people.

A struggling loner from Otis, Maine must contend with his inner demons to make a life and death decision. This is a study of heroism at its most elemental; how and why are some people, against all odds, able to confront the ultimate fear and put their lives at risk for a complete stranger?
