The film is an investigation of systemic racism in America at a time when many deny systemic racism exists. The title of the film is based on sociologist W.E.B. DuBois' famous question that he raised in his seminal book, "The Souls of Black Folk."

With the help of Danny Glover, Ed Asner, Henry Rollins, scholars, authors, and activists, we tell the story of systemic racism in America, past and present. The film also features music by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame artist, Jackson Browne.
