Gemma and Mae attend a break-up party for one of Mae’s new friends, a group of women who unironically refer to themselves as the “Femmes.” This group has been cultivated by Lake Evans, the hostess of the party and a quintessentially effortless it-girl. Gemma is meeting Mae’s friends for the first time, and as she experiences the connection between her girlfriend and Lake firsthand, Gemma begins to suspect that this aspirationalism around Lake is meant to obscure a sinister secret.
