BORN FROM JUNK BORN FROM JUNK is a narrative documentary film that explores the outlaw roots of mountain biking and its origins in Crested Butte. Featuring Crested Butte locals we know and love, it recounts the genesis of mountain biking in Crested Butte. Director BioMike Horn and Galin Foley are principals at Buttery, a creative agency that works with emerging and established brands. Horn and Foley have worked on a number of video projects together, however this is their first documentary film project.

BORN FROM JUNK

BLOOD RIDER Amidst a blood shortage crisis in Nigeria it can take over 24 hours to transport blood to patients in critical need. Joseph, one of the city's motorcycle "blood riders,” can deliver blood to hospitals in under an hour. For mothers in labor, this is often the difference between life and death. Director BioJon Kasbe is an Emmy Award-winning Australian-Indian director and cinematographer. His debut feature, "When Lambs Become Lions," was a 2017 Sundance Documentary Fund recipient, won Best Editing at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival, and was nominated for two 2019 IDA Awards in Best Cinematography and Best Editing. The film was released theatrically across the United States by Oscilloscope Laboratories and is now available on Apple TV and Amazon. His short films have screened at festivals worldwide and been recognized by SXSW, Hot Docs, Webbys, Vimeo Staff Picks, Camerimage Film Festival, Sheffield Film Festival, and National Geographic. In 2018 he was selected for DOC NYC's inaugural 40 Under 40 list. He is currently developing a new film in Concordia Studios Artist-in-Residence.

BLOOD RIDER

Amidst a blood shortage crisis in Nigeria, a motorcycle delivery rider carries precious blood to hospitals in the city, trying to ensure he can get to critical patients in time.

ALL THE POSSIBILITIES...REFLECTIONS ON A PAINTING BY VERNON PRATT is a documentary meditation on artist Vernon Pratt’s more than 1,400 square foot systematic abstract painting, ALL THE POSSIBILITIES OF FILLING IN SIXTEENTHS (65,536), which was completed in 1982 but only recently exhibited for the first time. ALL THE POSSIBILITIES... gives viewers a unique experience of Vernon Pratt’s mesmerizing and massive work of art from the smallest square to the painting as a massive whole. With a percussive score inspired by the painting’s mathematical formulas, the film immerses viewers in Pratt’s world of mathematically-based abstraction. It is a symphony in black and white. Director BiosMarsha Gordon is a professor of film history and author of numerous books and essays. Louis Cherry is an architect who designs houses, schools, libraries, churches, and other community buildings. Then, he took it on its maiden voyage to British Columbia in search of waves. Director BioIan Durkin is a director and the lead curator at Vimeo living in Brooklyn, NY.

THE FUTURE IS ROTTEN A secret culture of foragers spend their lives hunting the matsutake. Coveted in Japan for its flavor and symbolism, the treasured mushroom can bring up to $1000 per kilogram but its true value lies underground. A genius networker and healer of ruined landscapes, the matsutake might just be our last, best hope for an American forest system run amok. The rare fungi appears in troubled and depleted forests, collaborating with trees to help each other grow through a mutual collaboration. Humans continue to be stumped on how to cultivate these rare and valuable mushrooms and voices urging the U.S. Forest Service to change its fire fighting laws are growing. Characters from Oregon and Northern California invite us into a forest, a mushroom farm and a kitchen to demonstrate what happens when we collaborate and share the greater value found right under our feet—the mushrooms that help to preserve our ecosystem and are still delicious on our plates. Directed by CBFF alumni, Nancy Dionne. Director BioNancy Dionne is an award winning documentary filmmaker and photojournalist. She likes the adventure of taking people “to a threshold” by producing stories that create connections not yet considered. She graduated on the Deans List from the New York Film Academy in 2018 and with Honors from the San Francisco Art Institute in Photography and works full time as an AP for Transform Films in New York City and independent freelance producer and shooter.
