Community is often built around a shared table and a shared meal. Kamal, an Egyptian Muslim chef, and his wife, a Catholic American, immigrated to a small town in Iowa and opened a restaurant that celebrated the flavors of Kamal’s family's heritage. His restaurant became more than a place to eat; but a gathering place where strangers grew into friends, and where curiosity replaced fear of a culture and religion many had never understood.
