Fresh from opening the DocsBarcelona Festival, BALANDRAU, FROZEN HELL sensitively portrays a real tragedy. It's a story of survival, sorrow and guilt, in which Guille Cascante recreates the events of 30th December 2000. Moments away from a New Year, a perfect storm suddenly came down the Catalan Pyrenees, trapping several mountaineers and skiers, leaving very few surviving to tell their story. What follows is deeply personal and moving reflections by those who did survive and their rescuers, encapsulated in guilt and sadness at having lost close friends and partners on that fateful day. The beauty of the mountains, captured in gorgeous widescreen photography, contrasts with the merciless rage of natural disasters like this one.
