The Muranow neighborhood in Warsaw was once a flourishing and important center of Jewish life. During World War II the neighborhood was turned into the Warsaw Ghetto and was the last place Jews resided before being deported to the Treblinka death camp. When the war and destruction ended, the neighborhood was rebuilt with a graveyard of Jewish bodies and relics mixed into the cement cinderblocks. Today, thousands of Poles call the “new” green and spacious Muranow home. However, according to some of them, Poland’s dark past still looms, with Jewish apparitions wandering through apartments and walking the streets where they once lived.
