The massive Aliyah of over one million people from the former Soviet Union during the 1990s has left an indelible mark on Israeli society—especially in high tech, medicine, sports and the arts. However, their absorption was not without challenges, sacrifices and discrimination. The film captures the profound narrative of the immigrants, as seen through the eyes of the “Generation 1.5”: those who were born in the USSR and immigrated to Israel as children or teenagers. Now, three decades later, as fully assimilated adults, they grapple with their identity and sense of belonging in their adopted homeland. They also contemplate whether their move and life-altering transition was worthwhile.
