The Other, filmed from 2017 to 2024, captures the lives and resilience of Israeli and Palestinian peace-builders, artists, activists, ex-fighters, bereaved families, and other citizens who face the realities of life in conflict. Through shared, non-violent community efforts, individuals once defined by hate and war move beyond entrenched narratives and deep-seeded conditioning to inspire transformative change and break generational cycles of trauma and fear.

Joy Sela is a Jewish Israeli-American director/filmmaker based in New York. She spent 15 years in digital and experiential marketing before pivoting to producing films. She started her own agency in 2011, where she currently serves as Creative Director. In 2016, she founded the non-profit, ‘Positive Disruption Fund.’
Professor Elie Rekhess is an Israeli scholar of political history of the Arabs in Israel; Islamic resurgence in Israel; the West Bank and Gaza and Palestinian affairs. He currently serves as Crown Visiting Professor in Israel Studies at Northwestern University and the Director of the University’s Israel Innovation Project.
