The Chain Theatre presents it's "First Reads" series with Charla Jaye's "D. O. C." We will be doing a table read of the pilot episode: "Welcome to Angeltree!"
Charlee, a mid-20’s Southern Black chronic pain patient, finds herself being involuntarily admitted to Angeltree Substance Abuse and Rehab Centers due to legally prescribed opioid addiction. Within the first two days, Charlee experiences the degrading admissions process, the racial and class preconceptions of opioid addicts as opposed to crack and powder cocaine addicts among patients and staff, and the indifference about pain management from medical practitioners-big pharmaceuticals when patients inevitably become addicted to opioids.
