Essential Latinas started as a postgraduate research project exploring the social complexities Latin American women experience in the United Kingdom. The aim of the project was to understand and share how they were experiencing the pandemic —&nbsp;and which oppressions they suffered by being exposed to COVID-19. The pandemic showed clearly the vulnerability and unsafe working conditions for many migrants in the country putting themselves in the frontline — and, at the same time, being mostly invisible with no official acknowledgment from government or society. Essential Latinas

In January 2021, the world's lungs lacked oxygen. In Manaus, capital of Amazonas, dozens of people —&nbsp;including newborns —&nbsp;died in public hospitals due to lack of oxygen. Sans oxygène (Out of Breath) looks at Brazil from Paris (especially the tragedy of the Amazon region) where France shares its largest border with Brazil: the French Guyana. The choice of black and white, especially a grayish white, marks a scenario of sci-fi in which the future is the present.&nbsp; When can we imagine running out of oxygen?&nbsp; Inspired by real facts (such as the lack of oxygen cylinders in the hospitals of northern Brazil),&nbsp;the film fictionalizes reality and expresses it in images of pain and death —&nbsp;when words are not a possibility. Sans oxygène (Out of Breath) is an experimental short film that opens the trilogy of Devir&nbsp;based on a worldwide pandemic scenario.

Through the unique perspective of a hospital clown, May Bee explores the essence of —&nbsp;and the desire for —&nbsp;human connection, reminding us of its transformational power. May Bee

An uplifting film about COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement from the perspective of America's youth.&nbsp; Filmed remotely during the 2020 pandemic, (Dis)Connected follows a group of young people who discover how to be physically distant but socially together. Their connection makes them unstoppable. The film is based off the real-life struggles, heartbreaks, and triumphs of youth across America during the Spring and Summer of 2020 and uses the limitations of working during the pandemic to create a realistic portrayal of lockdown — with actors shooting many scenes with their camera phones and the director and crew working through FaceTime and Zoom. (Dis)Connected

One in four families with children in the United States is struggling to put food on the table; COVID-19 increased this number. Restaurants and other markets for food closed — initially hurting farmers. Farm to Families tells the story of the creative collaboration between Rogue Valley Farm to School, Fry Family Farm, local schools, and community volunteers, joining forces to feed families in Southern Oregon's Rogue Valley. In twelve weeks, during the 2020 Summer of Covid-19, the program distributed 240,000 pounds of fresh produce. ACTION OPPORTUNITY: This film contains action items. Farm to Families

Due to the global pandemic, the courts have been transferred to work remotely in Russia. The Process tells a story of one court hearing that takes place via Zoom.&nbsp; Butov, the main character, is tried on a ridiculous charge for participation in an online rally. The court hearing is supposed to be strict, but it turns out to be funny. Working from home prevents participants from remaining focused and independent —&nbsp;and the defendant's attorney’s microphone isn’t working, so the defendant has to defend himself. Is it possible to justify yourself before such a court? As it turns out, the attorney is the judge's husband, and he was hired by her on the condition that he'd remain quiet throughout the trial. However, the attorney declares that the whole trial is a farce. In the finale, we learn what binds the main characters and what sentence will be handed down. This absurd and Kafkaesque story was not accidentally called "The Process". The Process is based on a true story. Starring in the film is prominent Russian actor, Mikhail Efremov.

The Process

What Happened at the Veterans Home is a fictional drama inspired by worldwide events about three women caught dead center in the pandemic nursing home tragedy. The story centers around the intertwined stories of Gloria Michaels, a blunt, charismatic disabled veteran with a sense of humor; her daughter Gwen Michaels, an overwhelmed hospital nurse; and Mary Emmett, a hardworking CNA care aide and whistleblower who insists on revealing the truth of what really went on inside the nursing home during the early days of the pandemic to an inquiring reporter we never see. Mary’s own loss is slowly revealed. Throughout the story, we also hear the surprising, serio-comic point of view of the Covid virus itself. These are women you want to know and who share their harrowing personal experiences directly with the audience in a series of intimate scenes. Gloria, Gwen, and Mary never shrink from hard truths — or shy away from their grief. Still they manage to mine their wit, anger, and strength to demand better and fight on.
