When faced with the past, can we recognize ourselves and connect with our heritage?

When faced with the past, can these characters recognize themselves and connect with their heritage? In the first film, a girl time travels to make an impactful family connection. In another film based on a true story, a seemingly mild-mannered father has an extraordinary story to tell his daughter. In the last short, modern-day brothers put themselves in their ancestors' shoes - literally. Is "nature vs nurture" a real thing, can they be as tough as their forebears in the Australian desert?
