Jenny has a drug problem, an impending prison sentence…and a second baby on the way. Enter Marla, a court-appointed midwife and single mother, who reaches Jenny on a personal level to prepare her for the next stage of her life in this unflinching, knockout debut from Chiara Fleischhacker. The birth of her daughter brings a fleeting moment of hope —but the choice to keep her may no longer be hers.

When Jenny accidentally gets pregnant by her new boyfriend, Bolle, the youth welfare office finds out, and she is ordered to make arrangements with a family midwife. Her first son, Lucas, already lives with her mother Renate, so she is afraid of losing custody of her second child as well. Getting to know midwife Marla is therefore marked by skepticism. The two women could not be more different. But against all odds, an unusual bond develops between them, giving Jenny a newfound perspective and self-respect. She even decides to entrust Marla with her biggest secret—in a few weeks, she has to start a prison sentence for a past offense. Hoping for a spot with her baby at a mother-child facility, Jenny decides to start her prison sentence early. The birth of her daughter is a magical moment that makes Jenny briefly forget all her worries. She promises her baby she’ll never let her go. But this decision is no longer hers.
