Ester is a worn-out single mother in her mid-40s. She has spent the last fifteen years of her life caring for her non-verbal, intellectually disabled son, David. When a planned trip to visit friends in Italy falls through due to yet another episode of David’s extreme behaviour, Ester's exhaustion and frustration reach breaking point. In a moment of defiance, she steals her friends’ caravan and sets off on a spontaneous road trip through the Italian countryside. Drawing on her own personal experience and blending realism with lyrical imagery, Zuzana Kirchnerová creates a tender, poetic and atmospheric road movie, lingering on fleeting moments of intimacy, despair, and grace and offering a delicate portrait of maternal love and resilience.
