Marko lives in a Croatian village with his parents and younger brother, whom he adores. Although he is a gifted athlete, he plans to become a car mechanic after finishing school in order to respect his father's wishes. However, two events throw his seemingly stable life into disarray: the village is threatened by floods, and Slaven — his close childhood friend — returns home for his father’s funeral. While the villagers work tirelessly to protect their homes, Marko strives to build an emotional wall to keep his feelings at bay. With strong performances at its core and driven by empathy for its characters and their inner drama, Sandbag Dam is a subtle, melancholic tale of an ill-fated romance.
