Militantropos (lat. «milit» - soldier; gr. «antropos» - human) – a persona adopted by humans when entering a state of war. Militantropos chooses to accept war as the one and only option to exist. Opening with a ghostlike procession of civilians boarding evacuation trains amid falling snow, the film weaves together scenes of workers clearing rubble, newly trained volunteers, steadfast farmers, children eating strawberries and wounded soldiers receiving care. Each meticulously framed tableau—steeped in grey tones, billowing smoke and looming storms—invokes both bleakness and endurance. With its painterly compositions and carefully sculpted soundscape, the film blurs the line between documentary and visual poetry. The camera lingers patiently, often static, inviting the audience to contemplate both the enormity of war and the resilience found in fleeting gestures of daily life. Militantropos is at once atmospheric and profoundly compassionate. Awards: Cannes FF 2025
